Two Tips To Reduce Crashes

1. Training – The standards used to train and test drivers are a key component of a safe road. However, even though many countries have structures in place to train drivers, one aspect that is sometimes forgotten is the other road users that may also contribute to road accidents. Pedestrians and cyclists too need training and traffic control planners must work with the relevant authorities to ensure this education is taught from an early age.

2. Using turning lanes – Where roads converge at an intersection, building lanes for turning left or right before one gets to the intersection can greatly reduce accidents especially in intersections that experience high traffic. Introducing roundabouts in certain junctions is also worth consideration. Opponents of roundabouts however argue on the longer traffic jams that roundabouts sometimes attract even though this is debatable. Therefore, city planners must develop a system that works for the city when all factors are taken into consideration.
