Where to find coin values and buyers?
My mother is interested in selling her old coins. I don’t know what their values are or even what they are. Is there a site, preferably with images, that says what they are, what they’re worth, and maybe who’ll buy them?
There is no site that will really help you. Coin collectors still use the old fashion items called books and printed price guides. They are just that guides. One is Coin Values by Coin World and they come out once a month. A coin dealer or magazine store will have them. They are retail guides so dealers pay 40% or more, less. It may be best to go to at least 2 coin dealers in your are and take the best offer. Don’t be disappointed if the old coins have little value for most do. High grade old coins have a better chance but common circulated wheat cents as well as other denominations, even real silver dollars that are in low circulated grades are only worth the silver value about $12 or so now. You can prepare by getting a price guide so you have at least an idea of the coins value. Also if there is a coin club in your area seek them out to help you.
what is the difference between the US Coins Official Red Book and the Blue Book of US Coin Values?
please no stupid answers about the fact that one is red and one is blue.
but i’m a beginning coin collector and both have been recommended to me, but I do not know which is better to buy:
The Official Red Book: A Guide Book of United States Coins 2009
or
Blue Book of U.S. Coin Values
thanks!
The Red Book has a lot more information and gives the prices that the coins sell for. The Blue Book is the values the dealers will pay. The Red Book is a wealth of info on the different series of coins. It tells where the mint marks are as well as a quick guide to grading and numismatics. Neither book actually has values that are correct. The reason is coins change faster than the either book. The 2009 Red Book is out but it is only 2008. They are good for the info but a monthly price guide comes in handy such as Coin values. There are also 2 magazines that come out weekly, they are Coin World and Numismatic News. With Numismatic news on the first of the month issue is a U.S. price guide. With Coin World the guide is a magazine and costs extra. I would get the Red Book if I were you for it has a lot more info in it. The values are just a guide though and take them that way. If I can be of further help email me.

What are some websites for finding out coin values?
I have like 6 coins that are kind of old and are from different countries. I have tried google but nothing has come up. Can you tell me any good websites for finding out the value of coins?
Here are two helpful links.
wanting to sell parts of, or entire old coin collection but wish to find the coins values first?
Times are tough & I am considering selling my great grandfathers paper & coin money collection…Afraid of selling too low as I am unsure of each coins value, do you know a website that I can search the value of my coins on?
the coins & paper monies are from all over the world…all are very old and I would like to find a website that I can look up the value of each piece in order to know how much to sell them for, Thanks!
You do not mention a country for the coins, but here are a couple of good links. You might also consider a copy of the "Red Book" which lists retail values of all US coins.
Layman’s Guide to Coin Values
Coin Values?
I really am quite confused about these coins etc.
1927 gold double egal
colonial 1/6 of a dollar, Maryland, payable to londen etc…..( really old!)
No date: never circulated: gold 50 dollar coin. Front looks like the double gold egal coin but shows egal feeding babies
uncirculated 10 cent ( on paper) 1874 w/ pic of William M Meredith
unncirculated grant wood coin 1980. cant tell what metal it is….mabye gold. odd shade
The 1927 double eagle is worth from around $ 650 to around $860 from extra fine grade to mint state-64. This is what a dealer would pay but with gold going up the value will depend on what gold is selling for and the grade of the coin. It is not a rare date. The 1927 D & S mint marked ones are the rare ones. The colonial note has to be looked at for authentisity, there are many fakes around. You need to get a photo or scan of it and you can try denlys@aol.com. He is a well respected dealer in paper notes. Don’t bother him if you can not send photos or a scan with the email. You then will have to find a local paper money dealer. The 50 dollar coin has to have a date to be a U.S. mint item. In the early years 1986-1991the date was in Roman numerals. It must also say 1oz fine gold-50 dollars on the eagles side at the bottom. Value would depend on date. If no date it is a fake. I don’t do stamps so can’t help you, sorry. The Grant Wood item is a medal and it is gold. Getting a value would be hard on this item and you may have to check ebay and see if any are for sale. You need to find the right buyer to get the most from it. Coin dealers will not come close to it’s true value. it is collected by a specialized group.
