Numismatic Poll II: Have you collected coins minted in your birth year?

May 29, 2010 - 1:21 am 7 Comments

For example, I was born waaaay back in 1963. I have at least one coin in each denomination minted in that year.

I realize it’s not particularly valuable beyond face value, but it’s still kind of interesting to do.

Your thoughts?

i’ve done the same exact thing, no idea why.
maybe to acknowledge a monitary value of the year… lol

I have a mint set for everyone in the house birth year. We also collect pennies in folders. My gran started that tradition decades ago. The entire family competes to find the first penny every year.

You know I have a $5 bill that has all red writing on it … It’s suppose to be exchangable for silver or some bs…. It’s uh from 1953 but other than that no I don’t collect things from 1987

Oh here we go wiki says

1953: New $5 United States Notes and Silver Certificates were issued with a gray numeral 5 on the left side of the bill and the gray word FIVE with a blue seal imprinted over it on the right and blue serial numbers.

I was born in Canada’s Centennial year (1967), so a friend of my Dad’s gave me a set of special coins and the dollar bill to commemorate that year…. I still have it.

Mine was 1969. I was given a set as a gift by my now ex-step-father-in-law about 10 years ago. It was nice, but I don’t know what to do with it besides keep it in the cedar chest.
