Government doesn’t make any money off it, no. The people who make money are the companies who get paid to run the prisons. Prisons are pretty much private institutions, and we dump tons of tax dollars into these companies that run them. Its a huge business since a little less then 1% of the American population is in prison at any given time.

Government makes WAY too much money putting people in jail? Pretty sure that costs the government money. Can any1 explain that? Oprah is wealthy as and Wal-Mart perpetuates poverty in a lot of areas. would be funnier if it made sense.
